Post Traumatic Stress Disorder
and Children
There is a growing awareness that traumatic events in childhood
are a strong predictor of the likelihood of developing PTSD
sometime during the lifetime of the individual.
Without treatment, many people experience symptoms for decades
after the traumatic event itself. PTSD may affect individuals
of all ages who have experienced terror, threat (or perceived
threat) to physical and/or psychological safety, i.e. when
their ability to cope was overwhelmed.
Experts estimate that 9 or 10 percent of the population
suffer from P.T.S.D.
When victims suffer from a specific traumatic event, for
example, child abuse, rape, violent assault etc., the incidence
of P.T.S.D. increases to between 60 to 80 percent.
How to combat stress
Children with PTSD can usually be helped in only one session
lasting about 45 minutes.
Children respond well to hypnotherapy.
Adult PTSD - In the case of an adult with PTSD it will be
likely to require a number of sessions and this would be
